|Parents: Penelope and Sheldon
Birthdate: June 3, 2018
The pups started arriving around noon on June
3rd. The last babe arrived at 5:15pm. We have 4
boys and 2 girls. Mother and babes are all doing
well. Everyone is getting plenty to eat with only
6 pups in the litter. Penelope is a devoted
mother who has to be coaxed with treats to leave
them long enough to go outside.
1 Week Update
At the age of 1 week, the pups are all doing very well and
gaining weight nicely. With only 6 pups in the litter, they
are a bit earlier than with the larger litters. Penelope is a
devoted mother as is typical of our girls. The puppies do
not open their eyes until the age of 2 weeks. Their ears do
not open until they are 3 weeks. Their sense of smell is
how they explore their world in the beginning. I begin
holding and massaging the puppies from day 1 and
allowing them to smell my breath and be nestled against
my chest so that they are very comfortable with people.
2 Weeks - Update
The puppies all are growing very nicely. Most of the
puppies had their eyes opened a day before their 2 week
birthday. The pups are used to being held now and
snuggle contentedly against me after their daily weight
3 Weeks - Update
The puppies are all doing well. Their ears open at 3 weeks
and they are hearing sounds for the first time now. Each
one responded to the sound of my finger snaps as they
had their pictures taken. They have started sitting up and
taking a few steps. In the coming week, the pups will start
walking and playing with their litter-mates.
4 Weeks - Update
The puppies will begin eating solid food this week.
Penelope is spending some time away from them but is
still very devoted and is feeding them 3-4 times a day.
They will get their first bath and blow-dry. They had their
first grooming experience on the table. Their faces and
feet were shaved and they had their nails clipped. They
are sitting up, walking and playing on schedule.
5 Weeks - Update
The puppies will began eating solid food this week. They
weren't into it at first but by the end of the week, they
were enjoying it very much. Penelope is feeding them
twice a day at this point. The pups will be fully weaned by
playpen crate for short play times in the kitchen and living
6 Weeks - Update
The puppies visited the vet for their first exam and puppy
vaccination. They began taking daytime naps in their
individual crates. The pups are going "outside potty"
several times a day now.
