Birth Announcement:
Darcey and Sheldon's litter was
born on August 12, 2020. Darcey
delivered 4 boys and 2 girls in the
litter. The first pup arrived at 7:18
pm. Mom and puppies are doing
well.
1 Week Update
At the age of 1 week, the pups are all doing
very well and gaining weight nicely. The
puppies do not open their eyes until the age
of 2 weeks. Their ears do not open until
they are 3 weeks. Their sense of smell is
how they explore their world in the
beginning. I begin holding and massaging
the puppies from day 1 and allowing them
to smell my breath and be nestled against
my chest. They are weighed daily to ensure
that everyone is progressing.
2 Weeks - Update
The puppies are eating well and
growing on schedule. Most of the pups'
eyes were open on their 2 week
birthday. Everyone is used to being
held now and snuggles contentedly
against me after their daily weight
check.
3 Weeks - Update
The puppies continue to eat and grow
well. They are a contented quiet group
at this age. Mom and pups moved out
of the nursery and into a playpen crate
in the family room. Their ears opened
and they are now able to hear and
respond to sounds. I will begin saying
their names each time I hold them. I get
them used to loud noises by running
the shop vac, dropping metal objects,
etc.
4 Weeks - Update
The puppies had their first bath and
blow-dry. Their nails were clipped and
their faces and feet shaved. They had
their microchips inserted. They have
begun eating solid food. I grind the
kibble up and add pumpkin & chicken
brother to make a soft food for them.
Darcey has a lower tolerance for pain
than most of the girls and the pups'
sharp teeth are bothering her so she
has backed down to nursing just twice a
day.
5 Weeks - Update
The puppies had their second bath and
blow-dry. They had their 2nd face &
paw shave along with getting their nails
clipped. They are eating solid food 3
times each day . Mom is is still feeding
once per day but will be completely
weaned by their 6 week birthday. They
are enjoying short play times in the
kitchen this week.
6 Weeks - Update
The puppies had their 2nd bath and
blow-dry. They went to the vet for their
first vaccination. They will start going
"outside potty" on a regular basis this
week. Daytime naps will be taken in
individual crates rather than the
playpen crates. Everyone is eating well
and are completely weaned from
Darcey.
