Parents of this litter are Poppy and Charlie. This is their third litter together. Poppy and Charlie have been DNA tested and are clear for genetic diseases. Poppy weighs 47 lbs. Charlie weighs 50 lbs.

The puppies were born on June 6th. The first 4 pups arrived between 1am and 8:00am. The 5th puppy arrived at 9:34 am with the last pup arriving at 3:24 pm. Poppy delivered 6 girls & 4 boys.

The puppies are doing well. Fern and Colton got off to a slow start but are now gaining weight nicely. The rest of the babes have gained steadily. I weigh them daily to make sure everyone is gaining nicely which indicates they are getting their fair share of Mama’s milk. Poppy is a loving, attentive mother. I did the group pictures in two groups this week.

The puppies are doing well. Everyone’s eyes were fully open within a couple of days of their 2 week birthday. This week they are starting to sit-up. The pups are also taking a few halting steps. They will move out of the nursery into a playpen crate by the end of the week.

The puppies ears opened this week. They are now responding to sounds. They are also discovering their voices. They are starting to play with each other. A few steps are being taken and everyone is now sitting up.

The puppies are now walking & sitting up.
They are beginning to play with each other before naps with cuddling.
Toys are being introduced as they are now coming out of the playpen crate into their play area. This week they begin eating solid food while continuing to nurse. Poppy is still very attentive. She will begin to take short “mommy-time breaks” as the weaning process begins.

The puppies are all very much enjoying the solid food meals. I grind up kibble and add chicken or beef broth to make a soft meal for them. Next week they will transition to kibble. Poppy has limited nursing to twice daily. Full weaning will be completed in the upcoming week. The pups are scheduled to visit the vet as they turn 6 weeks old. They will receive an exam and their first puppy shot.

Poppy has weaned the puppies completely. Their baby teeth are very sharp and her tolerance for the pain was reached. Everyone is eating very well. The pups visited the vet for their first puppy shot and exam. I took them in small groups on three separate visits. They are now enjoying going outside for potty and playtime. On day 2, they followed me into the house by climbing 1 step onto the porch and then the big step into the house. Within the week, they will know what “inside” means.

The puppies have been doing very well with outside training. They follow me out the door, off the porch and into the yard. When “potty” time is done, they enjoy outside playtime. When I say “Inside!”, they all come running to follow me to the door. They have been napping in their individual crates during the day the past week. On their 7-week birthday, they had their first overnight sleep in the individual crates. Everyone settled down once the lights were off and the soft relaxing music was playing.
